6Smith Wayzata Reviews
Great spot, especially with wonderful weather on the patio or the roof
I was at six Smith twice yesterday. The first time was for a happy hour with a business colleague. Pierce was an outstanding host warm and friendly. He remembered me the second time I came in. Karen was our server and she was fantastic, helpful, attentive, thoughtful, and great. I came back that evening to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The weather cleared up so we were able to have dinner on the patio. I’m sorry I don’t remember our server’s name, but he was wonderful. He brought her a glass of bubbly and a delicious chocolate Dessert. We had the shrimp chimichurri, the beet and watermelon salmon salad, and the salmon entrée as well as an enormous slab of chocolate cake, which we ended up taking home. It was a fabulous evening with great food and amazing service. It’s terrific if you can sit on the patio or the rooftop since it’s a lovely view of Lake Minnetonka .
How disappointing.
We’ve been regular customers since it opened. We would wonder why they never changed the menu, other than increasing prices, but continued as loyal customers. Unfortunately they have gradually declined in service and quality. The only upward climb is their pricing. A few weeks ago we took 3 teenage grandchildren for Sunday lunch. Service was just really bad. Forgot two of our meals..sent to wrong table and our waitress unaware. Food quality has declined and prices ? Try $ 28 for the fat burger ! If you charge these prices everything thing needs to be top notch and I’m afraid it’s not. Too bad, we used to love this place but we’re done.
Birthday Dinner
We were a group of 10 on a Wednesday at 6pm. Everyone struggled to park. Valet was full and parking lot was a wait until someone left situation. We were told there are music events on Wednesday nights. Once we were seated everything went well. Food was amazing , the burgers 🍔 looked huge. The steaks were done to perfection. Servers were around the accurate amount of time to accommodate a birthday atmosphere. This is an easy recommendation.
Sat at the bar.
The servers were very attentive. I loved that they had my favorite non alcoholic beverage de soi. We ordered the bread that came with two different butters and chimchuri sauce. Came out hot and fresh. It was delicious. We also ordered the tuna poke with chips fresh and delicious. The buzz in here is hopping.

All day happy hour at 6Smith is always a hit! We tried a few happy items along with some staples! Steak tartare was amazing. Oysters were not great this time, too many huge pieces of shells that just clung to the oysters. Bread is life was delicious. My friends had their brunch items and were very happy! Steak and eggs along with the proper breakfast. Both were great!
This was my second visit to 6Smith.
Beautiful view and location, live music. Bread is Life - 10/10 - not sure who came first, but they seemed to have copied my favorite dish from Baldamar with different butters/dips for the bread. Excellent and best item we ate. Flank Steak - 7/10 - The chimichurri sauce I borrowed from our app really elevated this steak. On it's own, pretty average but maybe to be expected from a less tender steak. Hurricane (cocktail) - 5/10 - good flavors but way too much rum, not a balanced cocktail. On a previous visit I got their burger and remember enjoying that. Good service overall. For a steakhouse, there are better options but a solid restaurant.

Love 6Smith for its food, outdoor seating, lake views, and service! Great wine list as well as unique cocktails.

Love it here! Amazing food, especially the scallops with gnocchi and the lobster roll. Both are amazing and we have gotten them multiple times. The desserts are MASSIVE and phenomenal. The key lime and the 50 shades of chocolate are a must and plenty to share with the table. The outside seating is beautiful with the lake view. It is covered well with umbrellas so not too hot. Indoor seating as well. Definitely recommend a reservation on weekends especially in the summer. The staff are so friendly. For being a more elegant restaurant, they are still kid friendly with a kids menu. Great spot!
The most obnoxious atmosphere.
Music blaring down so loudly our table could not hear each other. We asked the server several times if the volume could be lowered (BTW, who chooses the music?) and she laughed each time. The next table had the same problem as evidenced by their yelling over the music. They probably thought the same of us and all tables were competing similarly. The food? Who cares?
Worth it!
We went with a very large party. The service was flawless. The ambiance was amazing. Calamari is a must! It was the best I have ever had! Good was very good.

We thought we would try this restaurant for our 40th Wedding Anniversary. Food was extremely disappointing. Both my husband and I ordered steak prepared medium. Both steaks were well done and dry. I ordered my steak with "Oscar" add on for an extra cost. The bernaise sauce was cold and so was the crab. Plus the bernaise sauce was a minimal amount - not enough to cover top of steak. At least my French fries and asparagus were warm. Waitress was attentive and tried to correct mistakes which were not her fault. Will not be going back.
Beautiful spot with a peaceful, lake-view feel.
Kids had the seared organic salmon and mac and cheese -- tasty, not too salty. The kids' meal came with fresh-squeezed juice, not boxed, which we really appreciated. Great food, great value!

The location of 6Smith in downtown Wayzata is the best part about this restaurant. Great cocktails as well. The service is good even with the undercurrent of pretension. Food is consistent but somewhat overpriced compared to quality of other restaurants. Overall worth visit for a lunch or dinner with work colleagues or some other formal engagement.

6Smith always has wonderful ambiance and is a great restaurant to go to if you want a nice view of the bay while feeling like you are in a nice, upscale environment. They also have one of the best happy hour deals in the area and have a broad array of options on their menu. However, the food and service just wasn't at the same level as the price and ambiance of the restaurant. Our waitress was friendly and gave us good recommendations, but she did not come back to check up on how the food was and it was hard to get her attention when we needed it. The food was just okay overall. The wings, oysters, and lobster sliders were the best thing we got and was very good, but the wallet bites and poke crisps were just okay. The short rib nachos were actually quite bad and came out soggy and cold. We did not finish them. Also, the water we were served was lukewarm with no ice and I did not get ice when I requested it which I did think was quite odd for a restaurant especially in the summer. Overall, its a nice beautiful restaurant, but you can find better food in the area for the same price point.
Happy Holiday Lunch at 6Smith
Had a great time today at an annual holiday lunch with longtime friends. Our server, Lia, was terrific: responsive, knowledgeable and fun! Food was excellent.
It was ok
Service was fantastic, drinks great, but food quality was not worth the price. Prime steaks at a premium price were just ok. They should have been fantastic. Filet was grisly and hard to cut into. Partners steak was overcooked. Apps and sides were as expected. Sadly, we won’t choose to return as there are better steak & seafood options around the area that are worth the price.
Great place for food and the view, additional + & - comments for potential patrons.
My wife and I were visiting our daughter who lives nearby, then decided to try this place for dinner on recommendation from a friend. On Friday, October 25, 2024, we called ahead from a reservation... nothing available between 5 PM and 8 PM. We decided to show up anyway and maybe just sit at the bar. Okay, GPS led us to the right area, but we could not see where the restaurant was. There is a 6 Smith sign on a building 2 blocks away from where it actually is, which confused us. Then we followed where others were walking to. We entered a large office lobby area, still can't find it. Finally, in a very dark entryway we turned into and a short walk down a hallway we found the place. We arrived about 5:30PM and I asked if we could grab a table in the bar. She said, I will have to tell you when one is available and they refuse to give an approximate wait time. I put my name in and we went to sit at the bar. We ordered drinks and an appetizer. 15 minutes later we had a bar table right at a window with a lake view. So.... don't believe them when they say nothing available for 3 hours. Great view and sunset. Wife ordered the Chilled Lobster Roll ($35). I chose the Brick Pressed Bell and Evans Chicken ($37). My dinner was an enormous portion, the chicken had a smoky BBQ flavor with fingerling potatoes and veggies, Excellent. Though my wife had a stomach distress after eating. I think maybe the Lobster was left out and not chilled properly. Our server, didn't get his name but he was awesome, great service! We were seated at Table 32, PM Bar B right next to where they were making the Smoked Old Fashioned.. our table was also smoked but we didn't mind, it smelled good. Prices for drinks ($16) and dinners ($35 - $75) here are quite high, but what is expected I guess in Wayzata on the lake. We really enjoyed dining here.. except for my wife's stomach distress.
Fun restaurant on Lake Minnetonka
Great place right on the lake. The food and beverages were great. We were there for a summer retirement dinner. Enjoyed the outdoor seating as we could have a conversation without shouting over the restaurant crowd. the food was plentiful and reasonably priced. Lots of great menu items to choose from. I highly recommend eating at 6Smith if you are on Lake Minnetonka or in the City of Wayzata.
Food quality has declined and the Prices have Sky Rocketed.
Been going here for quite a few years. The last few times the food quality has declined and the Prices have sky rocketed. This time will probably be the last. The flank steak was so tough that was almost impossible to cut with a knife. Flank steak is usually a tougher cut, but this one had veins of gristle throughout. I usually order a Filet Mignon, but an 8 ounce filet sitting alone on a plate, with zero sides of anything for $55, reeks of price gouging. I won't be going back.
Mostly Good but Some Bad
I held a business lunch here and was so extremely happy with the service that Anthony provided, he was so attentive, very knowledgeable and just a pleasure to talk to. The food was so tasty, everything was so good (only bad was the brussel sprouts were a little too hard). Overall we loved it - so much, we went back the next day! The next day we had a different server outside who was not attentive, nor a pleasure! My beverage was not refilled until we asked, my salmon wedge was good but way too much dressing on the wedge. My colleagues steak frites was served rare when asked for medium rare and although it was corrected, we had all finished by the time her replacement had arrived.
