1/5 by 👻 @Sarah P. on 09/15/2025

i made my first yelp account because i was so disturbed by my experience here. I came in excited by how creative this menu looked, but the food itself was a real letdown. Almost every dish sounded inventive, but once it hit the table it felt more like an experiment that never quite came together. The small bites set the tone: the Rosette Cookie was greasy instead of crisp, the cheese bland, and the onion jam overwhelmingly sweet. The Radish Cake with geoduck was dense and heavy, with seafood that added brine but no harmony. Even the Grilled Cucumbers--which could've been refreshing--turned watery on the grill, buried under sauces that competed instead of complemented. The seafood dishes were a mixed bag. The Dungeness Crab with corn bisque started strong, but the bisque's sweetness drowned out the delicacy of the crab. Albacore Tuna with stonefruit dashi sounded elegant but tasted muted, more about concept than flavor. Halibut with romesco was technically cooked well, but the whole plate ate flat and uninspired. Mains didn't redeem the meal. The Pork Collar was dry and syrupy from the apricot, while the Maitake "shawarma situation" had chewy texture but muddy spicing that lacked the punch promised. The Chicken Schnitzel with cherry mole was just confusing--thick, heavy breading paired with a fruity mole that never made sense together. Even the sides and breads fell short. The Tomato trio felt like dressed-up farmer's market tomatoes without real depth, and the Potato Salad with ikura was more of a gimmick than a good dish. Only the Crumpets with Jersey milk butter were enjoyable, but that's not enough to carry a menu priced at this level. Desserts capped off the disappointment. The Baked Alaska with corn husk ice cream was more odd than clever, with caramel corn throwing off the texture. The Princess Peach leaned sweet on sweet, and the rotating gelato was safe but forgettable. For the prices, you expect bold flavors, refinement, and a clear vision. Instead, this menu felt scattered, under-seasoned, and overthought. Nothing was inedible, but nothing was memorable either--and that's the biggest failure.

Unfortunately Atoma did not live up to the hype (and the difficulty in getting a reservation). The service was not good, from whoever answers the phones, to the staff and server at the restaurant. It's overpriced, really salty (and I love salt), and I would not come back. The rosette was probably the best thing. Very meh.

For these high prices and small plate sizes, they should offer a set or prix fixe menu. The best dish was probably the radish cake: $9 each!! Service was passive aggressive and unfriendly, she scowled a lot. We were a nice group having a good time, we ordered a lot. Our server could not have been more unbothered to engage us when we asked for recommendations on both food and drinks. Lots of other, better, food options on 45th.

You walk into a reminder f a wonderful restaurant in Berkeley and from there it only gets better. Chef Johnny and Sandy have put together a dining experience that is just wonderful. From the clever and artful drink menu to the edited food menu that is just perfect with its offerings. Every bite was an experience to be savored. If you are in Seattle get a reservation and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did. And the staff is amazing.

Fabulous!

5/5 by 👻 @SUZANNE C on 09/02/2025

This is a remarkable restaurant with creative and tasty dishes beautifully prepared and presented. We loved the radish cake, the appetizer cookies, the tomato salad, the cucumbers and the pork entree. The halibut entree was less successful because it was quite dry due to the cooking method used to create a crispy crust, which makes it virtually impossible to maintain a moist interior. With a bottle of wine, three mocktails (the bartender is a wizard) and a shared baked Alaska for dessert, the pre-tip tab was about $600 for the four of us. It’s true that the portions are somewhat small and it’s not an inexpensive place by any means but we felt it was worth it and would go back in a heartbeat.

4/5 by 👻 @Michelle C. on 08/22/2025

I heard so many great things about Atoma and was happy to see that reservations were not too difficult to get ahold of during my visit. The restaurant is situated in a renovated house, so it's easy to drive by. I opted for an indoor dining service, but on a nice balmy summer evening, I imagine the outdoor dining scene must be amazing. Our server, Evan, welcomed us and walked us through the menu, taking care to point out the items that were not nut-free as I have an allergy. We decided to start with some rosette cookies ($7 ea) as I saw most people order them, as well as a radish cake ($9). The rosette cookies were light and crispy and reminded me of Malaysian kuih loyang, but with a savory twist. I particularly enjoyed the caramelized onion jam and farmer's cheese which had a very strong goat milk flavor hidden within the cookies. The radish cake was quite pretty too, and when I read geoduck in the menu description, I assumed there would be geoduck in the batter, like an homage to the New England clam cakes. However, I barely tasted any geoduck, which was a little disappointing, though the pickled radish made for a lovely refreshing palate cleanser. We also opted for the spot prawns ($23) and grilled cucumbers ($18) for our small plates. The spot prawns were served with an almond milk nage, so I unfortunately was unable to try that, but my dining companions told me the prawns were sweet and firm, and the whole dish had an aroma of fermented black beans, which I found interesting. The grilled cucumbers were my favorite bite of the night. I expected the sumac yogurt sauce, as described in the menu, to lean Mediterranean, but the salad was a delightful surprise to my taste buds. I loved how sweet and smoky the caramelized cucumbers were, and the ground pepitas from the salsa macha really complemented those flavors with their inherent nuttiness. The gentle heat of the salsa macha was also balanced with the creaminess of the sumac yogurt and mint, resulting in an unforgettable salad. Evan did not steer us wrong with this recommendation, and I could have happily eaten a second order of this salad without hesitation. We also ordered the pork collar ($44) and black cod ($45) to share, and the entrées were, mercifully, much larger than the appetizers. I really enjoyed the pork collar but it was a mixed review at my table as some thought the collar was simply too fatty. I, on the other hand, love a fatty cut of meat and thought the flavor was spot-on. The apricot sauce was also the perfect balance of sweet and tart. The black cod was serviceable-- I wasn't the hugest fan of the artichoke barigoule as it felt too heavy paired with the leek emulsion. The parmesan shards were a nice touch of umami for an otherwise bland dish. For dessert, we decided on the tayberry sorbet ($9) and the seasonal mille-feuille ($16), which also featured tayberry and elderflower. The latter was particularly memorable as the crispy layers of puff pastry yielded to the fork and uncovered a sea of creamy elderflower pastry cream and tart tayberry jam. I wasn't really sure where the salsify came into play, but it was definitely my second favorite bite of the evening. Overall, the service was impeccable and the food was incredible (for the most part). While most of the dishes we ordered were a little small in portion size, I felt we left our meal feeling satiated. I did notice the table next to us got a complimentary dessert and we didn't, so I'll subtract a star for that.

Even the mixed drinks have unique recipes. The location in a small house is cozy but fun with upbeat music playing in the background. It's certainly not a stodgy old place, so keep that in mind when coming here for dinner. The flavors were interesting, but do keep in mind as other reviewers have mentioned, that some dishes seemed to be a bit oversalted.

I don't normally leave reviews, but after my experience

1/5 by 👻 @Say M. on 07/30/2025

I don't normally leave reviews, but after my experience here, I felt compelled to speak up. Heck, I created this Yelp account just to write this review! I visited this restaurant for a special occasion, lured in by its high ratings and flattering reviews. Unfortunately, my experience was not so great. The food was shockingly underwhelming. For the amount of money spent (several hundred dollars) I expected unique flavors and something to remember! Instead, what we were served tasted like a microwaved frozen meal from a discount grocery store. But honestly, what soured the experience even more was the response I received after posting a similar (and yes, honest) review on Google Maps. Rather than showing any willingness to acknowledge or learn from constructive criticism, the owner attacked me personally and accused me of trying to harm their business. I'm sorry, but when you charge a premium, you open yourself up to fair criticism. If you can't accept feedback, maybe you're in the wrong industry. I recognize that my original review on Google Maps may have come off as harsh. I was genuinely upset at the time, and I stand by the fact that the food was disappointing. But how full of themselves someone must be to dismiss all criticism and lash out instead of reflecting and improving. Serving mediocre food is one thing; being defensive and rude to paying customers is another. To anyone considering this place for a special occasion, don't make the same mistake I did. There are plenty of restaurants out there that actually care about their food and their customers. I am posting my original google maps review below: Flavorless food positioned as pretentious fine dining! Let's start with the food: completely flavorless. I'm not exaggerating when I say it reminded me of microwaved grocery store meals. Bland, uninspired, and utterly forgettable. This restaurant charges outrageous amounts for tiny, laughable portions that wouldn't fill a toddler, let alone a paying adult. I don't mind small portions when the food is exquisite--but this wasn't even average. It was downright bad. There are so many better places to spend your money. Do. Not. Go. People who left positive reviews are either lying or do not know good food.

Cute place in the heart of Wallingford.

4/5 by 👻 @Dan H. on 07/25/2025

It's small- you have probably driven past it 100 times without realizing it. It's a historic home that was converted into a restaurant. In sum, this is an upscale tiny plates place. Food was great, dishes were quite small, but prepared very well. Love the rosette cookies, radish cakes, and black cod, and kanpachi. They were also able to accommodate my friend who doesn't eat mayo by swapping out some ingredients for the radish cake, which was really nice! Everything from the presentation of the food to the delicacy of the wine glasses was so elegant. Very cute spot, definitely get reservations in advance. Just remember expect to spend a pretty penny or leave hungry.

Bad imitation of a 1980’s nouvelle cuisine with tiny portions and high prices. Good wine however at double what it should cost. They say plates should be shared but the portions are too small to share. After eating there I ate a great complete meal at home. Rip off.

5 stars all around! This gem is tucked into the cutest craftsman, and while tables are close together, it's still an intimate setting. Derek was the best server. Loved his recommendations, descriptions of menu items, and demeanor. Dishes were paced to come out at perfect intervals. The food was amazing. If this place doesn't win the James Beard, then someone isn't doing their job. Surprising elements, bright flavors, delicious. The rosetta cookie, the maitake entree, and the sunchoke sundae were my favorites.

Get the Kanpachi!

4/5 by 👻 @Kinda Invisible on 03/03/2025

Okay, let's get into it! Free street parking is available if you have a bit of patience. It took us just a few minutes to find a spot a block away. The exterior in this renovated home is nicely lit and inviting with a small waiting area (previous mud room porch probably) that we spent just a few minutes in as we arrived on time for our reservation. The staff are exceptionally engaging and ready to serve. The hostess hung up our jackets for us while escorting us to a cozy table in the front. Note that a decor item in the waiting area was visible through a window at our table and I couldn't help but point it out because it was something I had in the 1980s. Made me smile and wonder what the story is behind it. Anyway, we pretty much ordered everything on the menu! Get ready to spend some serious $$. We ordered drinks that were delicious and strong. For starters we had everything minus the crab and for the next round we had the Jerusalem artichoke, kanpachi, and beef tartare. Honestly, I could eat a bowl of the kanpachi! I may or may not have entered into an arm-wrestling competition with the rest of the table to get my fair share of the tartare with chips. For mains we tried the lamb and pork collar. The proteins on both were outstanding. The kumquat sauce on the lamb was a little odd and paired with the salsify root vegetable it created a too sweet(ish) flavor for me. I would have preferred something a little more savory, but I'm not willing to say don't order it--personal taste and all. The sommelier was beyond helpful and had a great sense of humor while we chose a nice red within our budget. Of course, it was an excellent choice that we enjoyed to the last drop. The savory crumpets and heirloom spuds complimented our mains. I would skip the spuds next time. They were just okay. Crumpets are hearty and give that carb desire most of us have at dinner. Baked Alaska for dessert was a fun ending to a wonderful experience.

A lovely spot for a special dinner. This restaurant is located in a charming converted home on a main street. We dined in the lovely patio in a fenced in, pergola framed space on a warm summer evening. Our waiter was charming and attentive and the other staff were friendly and welcoming, even though we did not have a reservation. The interior decorations were charming, including the spacious restroom which included a bold choice of wallpaper. The food was just phenomenal; the rosette cookie is famous for a reason, and we also really enjoyed all of the other dishes as well; the chef even made zucchini taste good. I couldn't recommend this restaurant more highly.

Always a pleasure and best meal in town

5/5 by 👻 @Eva on 06/24/2024

I’m a huge fan and repeat guest, I think now the 4th time since they opened. It’s located in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood, has garnered significant attention since its opening and I’m very happy they have. The restaurant offers an eclectic mix of dishes influenced by global travels and local ingredients, not to mention one of the best wine selections both by the glass and bottle. Having met the sommelier and getting his business card, I look forward to staying in touch, particularly when it comes to Hungarian, Austrian, and Eastern European wines. The menu gains praise for its inventive vegetable dishes. Standout items include the lion’s mane schnitzel, which is my favorite. We also had the Halbut along with some sides. I love the personal touch and how the waiters take time explaining details about each dish and truly want to connect with their guests. Overall, Atoma is recommended for those who appreciate creative, vegetable-centric cuisine and are looking for a special dining experience in Seattle. Our evening was fabulous and I can’t wait to go back for their fall menu.

Delicious with small portions and noisy music

4/5 by 👻 @DKSeaWA on 05/29/2024

Yes, the food was excellent. My favorite : The Lion's Mane Schnitzel is as good as others have said. Also I particularly liked the Radish cake with fermented radish, geoduck and clam belly aioli - a two bite appetizer for $9. Other standouts : the Dungeness Crab appetizer $24 and the Kohlrabi Waldorf salad $13. We were a group of six. We like to try everything; that is our MO. We like to share each item with everyone expecting to get a bite or two. We knew to each order our own "Rosette Cookie". But we also found you cannot expect any appetizer or side to serve more than two people at this restaurant. Delicious, small, and expensive. Even the Zero Proof - non-alcohol cocktails were expensive - $15 for "Noughty By Nature". $15 x 6 people, plus tax and tip - plan $120 for a non-alcohol drink round. It is very noisy with the music being way, too loud. What's that about? Many other patrons have complained about that and yet they haven't toned it down. Would I go again? Yes, and I'd get each of the dishes mentioned above for myself ... not sharing with anyone ... lol. Would I go a third time? Probably not, too noisy. Food five stars - marked down to 4 for noise and portion size.

Deliciously packed with flavor and great service

Had heard about Atoma as they were gearing up to open and was intrigued when I read that previous Canlis Executive Sous Chef Johnny Courtney is the owner. Was very excited when my friend suggested we go for a girls night out. We had a blast and tried some cocktails: Garlic Honey Highball, Missing Miraflores and a Mini Martini. All amazing but I really loved the Pisco sour resembled one. Dishes are very shareable and so we did just that, except for when my friend enjoyed the pork collar…no thanks..said the pescatarian, here. I was disappointed they took off the fried mushrooms they had on the menu a couple of weeks ago but the Kohlrabi with Dungeness crab, almond milk, curried crab butter and the Lion's Maine Schnitzel made up for it. Perfectly seasoned. Service is very warm and friendly and great attention to detail to round off the evening. Can’t wait to go back…VERY SOON!
