BISTECCA Sydney Reviews
Bistecca is named one of the best steakhouses around the
Bistecca is named one of the best steakhouses around the world. On exactly which list, I'm unsure because I let my partner decide on dinner during our first night in Sydney. There are a couple of Sydney steakhouses listed, but Bistecca was the only one that didn't have a strict dress code, which was important since we didn't pack any fancy clothes for the trip. The entrance looks like the backdoor of the restaurant. Once you enter, you wait in a bar-like area before being led to the dining room. The overall atmosphere feels like a speakeasy, dark and all. The waitress recommended about two sides per person and suggested sharing the portion size of the steak between the two of us. We honestly could've done with one side each; we ended up barely finishing 3 out of the 4 sides. I honestly don't know if locals come here for steak because, in some ways, this place seems touristy. But overall, it's good. Also random, but your cell phone gets locked up throughout the dining experiences, so that is why you won't see many photos uploaded. I couldn't tell time since I didn't have a watch on.
7+ Star !
We have tried many 5 star steakhouses here and overseas. We both thought the steak at Bistecca is the best we have eaten. The whole experience is wonderful. You could believe you have stepped into a Florentine or New York restaurant. The staff are truly professional, surrounds are lovely and most importantly the food and wine a delight. The buratta and the pecorino starters were divine. We added the roast potatoes (a must) and the broccolini to the steak and they were delicious. The steak however was the star of the show ! If you can get in (I diarised when bookings opened for our weekend) this is a must do at least once in your life.
Undercooked
You need to like your steak blue or rare, despite saying they make it medium rare, the steak was very undercooked in parts. The sides were disappointing compared to the cut of meat and did not pair well. The room was also very dimly lit and had too much smoke from the open grill next to the tables, this gave me a headache and sore eyes. For those with a disability, there is no accessible entrance for those who cannot handle stairs well, it would be helpful if this was listed on the website. The staff were friendly but the food was highly disappointing.
Nestled discreetly in Sydney, Bistecca promises a culinary
Nestled discreetly in Sydney, Bistecca promises a culinary adventure unlike any other. Their masterfully prepared steaks boast unrivaled flavor and tenderness. However, the service occasionally falls short of expectations despite the attentive staff. The lounge is classy with a great bar. The dining room is cozy and inviting. The food is delicious and the ambiance is lovely - truly a great dining experience. What this place doesn't need is fluff - the secret entrance is such a novelty and gets old quickly. The phone rules seem slightly over the top and a distraction in itself. It'll definitely be a different dining experience!
Wonderful surprise find
One of the best dining experiences we had in a very long time. We are from CT and touring Australia with a group. After 18 days, we arrived in Sydney. We asked our hotel concierge at the Amora Jamison Sydney hotel for a recommendation of a mid range steak house. He highly recommended Bistecca as the first choice as it was the closest place to the hotel. We had no clue what to expect. Went to Bridge Street and saw a sign that says enter on Dalley street behind the building. We walked on Dalley street and almost missed the entrance as it is well hidden. Turns our the place is designed to be well hidden as a speakeasy. You had to walk down stairs and when you open the door you enter into a beautiful decorated bar, reminding you of a 1920s speakeasy Cafe. The restaurant is amazing. They serve a porterhouse steak by weight. We ordered a 16 oz steak cooked to perfection med rare and a side of their amazing deep fried Brussel sprouts with sour cream and cheese. Als9 had a carafe of outstanding Aussie red wine. One of the best dinners we had at very reasonable cost. So glad we were able to done without a reservation. Staff were incredibly friendly and efficient. You must try this place.
Absolutely fabulous.
The steak was awesome. The starters (octopus and gnocchi) and sides (green beans and cabbage) were excellent. The wine recommendations perfect. The atmosphere was superb. The attention to detail from the subtle waitstaff was excellent. Highly recommend!
Worth the experience, but gross was nothing to blow my mind.
Entrance is through the back laneway for exit and down the stairs where you're welcomed by the bar. You lock your phone away the duration of the meal. Really attentive service and would recommend for the unique dining experience!
A good steakhouse.
A great steakhouse in Sydney. We booked Bistecca after hearing raving reviews of the place. We were not disappointed per say, but also not WOW either. We came as a group of 6 guesgs. The food was good, I'm not gonna lie. The dining room was bustling and gave a good vibe to the place. But I just thing that all the good reviews hyped me up and when I was there; I came in with high expectations and left not so satisfied. No doubt the food was good, but I can't say it was exceptional. No photos either as they have a No phone policy. Good idea actually to ensure we all interact with one another. I honestly, would not come back again, but would definitely recommend to give this place a try at least once.
Terrific experience that went beyond the hype! Highly recommended
Simply fantastic place to eat! The whole experience of having a few beers in the bar area, before going into the private dining room which is through the main dining room, was brilliant. Food is full of special touches, the service excellent & incredibly knowledgeable. The steak was magic as expected & the wine list will satisfy anyone. Highly recommended - I’d love to go back one day!
Amazing!!!!!
I don’t say this lightly… one of the best dining experiences of my life. Not just the food (which was amazing) but the room, service, atmosphere, wine…. Everything. I’m so glad I was able to dine here. Will be back every time in in Sydney
Birthday celebration
We had a party of 25 friends to celebrate a birthday at Bistecca in their private room and it was amazing! The food, service and atmosphere were all perfect. It could not have been a more perfect night.
Special dining experience
The restaurant was all I had hoped it would be as a surprise experience for my partner's birthday. I'm reluctant to reveal any more than has already been written about this restaurant so that you can also experience the same surprises on arrival and throughout the evening. Overall the experience is absolutely top notch. The entry through the laneway into the bar sets the tone for the evening: one of surprise with a hint of intrigue. The customer service was outstanding throughout the evening from the moment we arrived with everything well timed and handled perfectly. As for the food, well ... while the steak is certainly the star of the show, don't estimate the delicious sides. We chose two: the brussel sprouts and pumpkin dishes. They were both absolutely delicious, as was the bone marrow for entree. For an all round special dining experience, I highly recommend Bistecca.
Nice steak in the city
Lovely dinner in this restaurant in the centre of the city. The meat was outstanding, also the service was nice. Wine list big and well done.
Taste just like the real thing - Fiorentina bisteca!
Situated in the basement of Bridge St. lie a cosy Italian steak house which serves bisteca in the vein of Florence’s famous bisteca fiorentina! The T-bone steak is cooked to be just so tender and juicy! Taste so scrumptious! We also ordered side dish of roast potatoes with tonato sauce and charred brussel sprouts with sour cream and pecorino, and they are very delicious! And they have the best tiramisu in Australia - just the right balance of liquor, coffee and cream and so moist. Another surprise is the edible candle wax!
Superb Family Dinner 👏
What an experience, family dinner prior to our daughter’s wedding, she managed the booking well in advance and prior to our arrival from USA. Yes entrance is through the back door which was a bit suspicious to start but once you get to the waiting room you can cense the ambiance and top notch service. We were seated (group of 7) at the Cellars room which helped to enhance the occasion. The Waiter was outstanding, and the food was superb, from the entries to the meet selection, cooked to the perfection, plus the wine selection suggested by the Sommelier have enhanced our appreciation and recognition of a superb family dinner. Will go back next time we back in Sydney for sure.
Fabulous Steak cooked over red hot coals
Recommended by a kiwi as the best Steak Restaurant in Sydney. We got a luncheon (love this word) reservation. Enter via an inauspicious door at street level into a subterranean bar area. A nice cocktail list which we didn't partake in due to a heavy Sunday lunchtime session the day before. You are shown through onto the dining area after locking away your phones. Nice starters and then T Bone Steak served with an array of sides. A huge tiramisu & coffee completed the feast. An extensive wine list proved to attractive and we were back in the saddle! Compared to London prices this restaurant is terrific value for money
Just go here! Make sure you have a reservation.
Vibe 10 out of 10, food 10 out of 10, service 10 out of 10 and last but not least concept 20 out of 10!!! One of the most unique restaurants I've been to, it's a speakeasy entrance so don't walk by it... watch ling them cook your steak over open fire can't be beat. Must visit with you friends, family or significant other!
Best steak I’ve ever had!
I took my partner here for his birthday. The location is a fire door down an alleyway. As you enter and walk down the stairs you’re greeted with a warm welcome. Very cool ambience underground feel with mood lighting. They have a no phone policy to enjoy the food and each others company with no distractions so our phones were confiscated and locked up. Our waiter Frederico was excellent he was very attentive and friendly. We sat near the open coal cooking area. Good ventilation so you can’t smell the smoke. The beef fat candle appetizer was incredible my partner loved it so much he asked for more bread. We had 720g T Bone steak the eye fillet was cooked to perfection. Every bite melted in my mouth. We had Brussels sprouts and potatoes on the side both was full of flavour. My partner had whiskey sours which were quite strong. Food, ambience and service was great 10/10 would definitely go there again.
Anniversary lunch
Honestly one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. The steak was immaculate and I’ve Bennett tasted sides that were this perfect. Entrees nice but not needed. Can’t wait you return. A whole “ experience” For sure. 10/10
Must try for steak lovers
Honestly one of the best meal experience I have ever had. Service was great - gent with tats on head was so good with the wines managed to translate our lack of wine perfectly. Meat, starters and sides were all excellent and loved the Pandora’s box touch. Will be the first place I come when I am in Sydney next. Fantastic!
So good!
It’s an outstanding dining experience. While steak is the main act, you can expect a few surprises along the way. We loved our evening at Bistecca, the food, wine, and service were amazing! If you can find a table, be ready to be delighted.
Best Steak by far
What can I say only AMAZING.. Cosy, intimate and welcoming. The steak is on another level, delicious and satisfying. The appetizers were gorgeous the perfect start to what was a beautiful meal.
Go …
Wow! Yum! Steak cut to size and cooked to perfection. Excellent service. An extensive wine list and delicious sides. This place has it all including an interesting location in an alley below ground. Perfect for a special occasion. I also loved that phones had to be locked away and no children allowed.
Best steak in Sydney
Best steak restaurant I have visited in a very long time. Great steak, great sides (polenta in particular), great atmosphere and sensibly priced. Will be eating here whenever in town.
As good as the hawksmoor in London
The title says it all the t bone steak is as good as the hawksmoor which is praise indeed tables are not easy to secure but we had lunch with my son and girlfriend who work next door .It’s like a speakeasy very dark only 1 main course florentine steak which was really good cooked over charcoal 300/375 gr each plus a few sides and starters and 2 or 3 starters a bottle of decent house red a couple of cocktails and a digestive came to 420 dollars not cheap but this was top drawer no phones allowed is a novel idea especially in a city resterant
Sensational
I’ve been to hundreds if not thousands of resteraunts all around the world. This was Possibly the most outstanding dining experiences of my life. Every possible attention to detail catered for with some quirky eccentric details ( like finding it) to keep you interested . I just ordered what was recommended by the maître d'. Steak was Devine. Sommelier service was sensational. I’m not a push over, just look at my NEXT SYD review for a steak Restaraunt. I’m overwhelmingly possitive on this restaurant. Just GO!!
My by fave favorite place in Sydney- such a lovely
My by fave favorite place in Sydney- such a lovely experience. No pictures as they lock your phones away so you can actually visit with each other! Must make a booking/reservation. They grill a steaks right there in the same room- the steaks were delicious. The candle- yes candle, is made out of beef fat and they melt it in front of you!! Bread was delicious, we started with gnocchi. Had Brussel sprouts (so good) and potatoes and of course a bottle of wine!!!!
