This tucked away restaurant is amazing and totally worth
This tucked away restaurant is amazing and totally worth checking out when you're in Rome. The food was delicious, service informed and efficient and the ambiance made you feel welcome and at home.
We enjoyed our evening here and ordered many dishes
We enjoyed our evening here and ordered many dishes including the gnocchi with shaved truffle, ravioli with ricotta and spinach, tortellini with meat filling, tagliatelle with beef ragout, and fried meat balls. The food met our expectations and the service was fine. The ambiance was that of a small restaurant, somewhat upscale dining, though flexible to allow casual clothing. We had no complaints whatsoever and were fairly pleased; would recommend looking over the food pictures to decide how much you would appreciate this style of food.
Top 5 Meals Iโve Ever Had
Top 5 meals Iโve ever had. We got in on a whim when looking for a place to eat on our last day in Rome. Ended up getting paired with another couple in order to get in which only made our experience more special with the conversation we had with them (from US, they were from UK). The pumpkin gnocchi is something I think about daily! Canโt wait to come back one day.

Awful awful service !! Was there for two hours , at one point the waiter brought us someone else's check between course two and course three. They didn't serve us bread, took forever and the food was ok. But all food everywhere in Rome is good, absolutely nothing to write home about, horrible service, ok food - not worth it !! Save yourself
The ONE that will set your taste buds free (from the usual Roman dishes, it gets tiring after a bit)
I hope only people who really know how to appreciate good food, those who are truly passionate about how food should be enjoyed by all the senses, I hope that only these people find this place. Others who are just going where most are eating or coz following social media - please avoid this place and just maybe go to Tonnarello or Osteria da Fortunata . You deserve it. I can't even define the experience - I was mindblown by the quality of the ingredients, the preparation, and the service. It was GASTRONOMIC BLISS. I try restaurants (for food quality and service) all over Rome (yes, I live here), Florence, Naples and other Italian tourist capitals for work - I've to say that Colline Emiliane is a place I'd go back to over and over again. If I don't stop here, I'd write them an ode, so bye. If you've arrived till here - order the gnocchi con tartufo, the bollito con mustarda di frutta and the chocolate cake with pear. You are most welcome.
Getting in touch with them to make a reservation was a bit
Getting in touch with them to make a reservation was a bit tough but our hotel was able to call and get us situated for our last meal in Italy. Throughout the trip, all we could think about is how much we missed the food from our previous Italy trip, in Tuscany and Milan so Colline Emiliane was a very welcome change of pace. The service was great as was the wine. The food itself was delicious. The pasta was cooked perfect, the fillings and sauces were delicious. The true stars were the ravioli and the truffle gnocchi but in delicate sauces but bursting with flavors. The angolotti was good but there was a bit too much broth. The Tiramisu to finish it off was nice as well! Add this to your list if you can!!
We got lucky.
Before I continue, plenty of well deserved ink has been spilled about this place and I'm here to confirm that it's all true. Back to our luck, we showed up with no reservation and by some miracle of a no show, we were fortunate enough to be seated for the 9:30 seating the same day and everyone was as gracious to us as if we had been in the books for months. Having said that I wouldn't recommend just showing up, schedule a reservation! We started with an order of prosciutto and an order of the pork shoulder salami. I'm full from dinner and yet as I type this my mouth is watering. The prosciutto was so evenly balanced between the flavor of the pork and the spices used to cure it. It was not dry or stringy or too fatty very, very nice. The salami was equally balanced with a bit of heat and a perfect blend of spices used in curing and the glorious flavor of the pork shoulder. Both just reset my definition of and expectations for cured meat. They were both served with house made crackers that were made from the gnocchi dough only baked and with the slightest kiss of salt. I had the tagliatelle alla bolognese and my companions had the pumpkin ravioli and the lasagne Verdi. First off all of the pastas were so fresh, clean and elegant, each different yet no less flavorful. Starting with the tagliatelle it had a nice al dente bite to it and tasted of fresh dough. The ragout was not too wet and not too dry and delicately balanced in terms of spices also it didn't taste of cream nor was it greasy, which is a pet peeve of mine. The pumpkin ravioli was and I was afraid it might be, but it was not sweet. The spices were nicely balanced highlighting and enhancing the flavor of the pumpkin. The dough in the ravioli was equally as fresh as the tagliatelle but with a hint more moisture. Again I'm drooling. The lasagne was like no lasagne I've ever had. First, it was green because they incorporated spinach into the dough adding an unexpected hint of earthiness to the pasta. The lasagne itself was not greasy, not cheesy and not dripping wet. The dough was softer and slightly different t than the two other pastas in terms of texture and bite and it was nice and thin, not thick and gelatinous which tasted great in the layers of the dish. The meat sauce and cheese were well balanced in terms of flavors mingling and the cheese was not overbearing. It was quite an experience. For dessert we had the chocolate cake, strawberry pie and the spiced pear cake alla mode. The chocolate cake was rich in chocolate flavor without being sugary sweet and it had a nice walnut or almond texture in it for contrast of the cake texture. It was topped with a rich warm fudge sauce that added another chocolate dimension to the chocolate ness of the cake. My favorite was the strawberry pie, which had strawberries, some custard and a crรจme freche, the dough was divine and carried the sweet, yet not too sugary sweet of the toppings perfectly. The spiced pear was a bit much for me in terms of intensity but with the ice cream on top it was quite balanced. Espresso was amazing as was the bottle of Pinot Nero we ordered. The wine really put an exclamation point on a perfect meal. Again everyone was so kind, patient, helpful and funny. If I'm back in Rome I'm definitely coming back here and I'm definitely making a reservation. Do yourself a favor and do the same, go to Rome and if you do you must eat here.
Colline Emiliane
This was the first fine dining restaurant we went to in Rome where a number of people didn't have reservations, but wanted a seat. It was our last meal in Rome, and the Tagliatelle certainly lived up to the hype. We weren't big fans of the fried meatballs. Note that the restaurant was a bit small. Even though we made our reservation a few weeks in advance, our table was by the entrance; having to listen to the phone ring constantly and guests try to convince the host to give them a table took away from some of the ambiance.

This place is sensational! They craft their pasta and sauces according to the authentic traditions of Emilia Romagna, delivering a truly genuine Italian experience, all while being reasonably priced. Do not miss out on the desserts--they are simply amazing. An absolute must-visit--you'll thank me later! Just be aware that without a reservation, your chances of securing a seat are slim.
Superb Meal
We had starters and main courses here at their 7.30pm Saturday Night sitting. The food and wine were superb. I was especially pleased that they served branded bottled water rather than filtered water from the tap as many so called quality restaurants do these days. We knew that there was a second sitting at 9.30pm and otherwise might have had deserts. However we had probably had enough food with the two courses. I'm not sure where the two hours went, other than we don't do fast food. The service was quite prompt so it just took us that time to savour our meal.
Amazing food service and.
Ambiance. The service was spot on, pasta dishes were incredible. Make sure you have a reservation or your not getting in. Highly recommend this restaurant.
The Emperorโs New Clothes. Just OK overall.
The Emperorโs new clothes. The handmade pasta is a treat, but there are thousands of places that do it across the country. Service is quite brisk, but honestly not that attentive. Wine list offers a nice selection, but no one pours the wine after the first glass. They did have a Michelin mention a few years ago. We did not have any major complaints but overall we just didnโt think this place was anything special. My wife was not very happy with any of her choices. We would not return.
Just OK
There was nothing wrong with our meal at Colline Emiliane, but nothing special either. You will not get a โspecialโ dining experience here. The waiters will not ask how youโre doing or make recommendations. They are busy so they want you in and out fast. I ordered the lasagna verde and my husband had the Tortelloni with spinach and ricotta. Both tasted good but werenโt show stoppersโฆ and they came out exceptionally fast and with little detail with plating. Overall, this is a sure bet for good food in Rome, however, it likely wonโt be a meal to remember.
The restaurant opens at 12:45pm.
You need a reservation. They turned a family of three away. We asked at our hotel if they would make a reservation for 1:00pm. Was told the reservation would be called at 12:45pm when they opened. We got there at 1:00pm and they didn't have our name. Informed them that the hotel was to have called. After a few minutes he gave us the table by the front door. Other tables were empty but reserved. Wifey ordered and enjoyed the tagliatelle. I had ravioli with spinach and sausage, all homemade. Very good tasting. I could see a woman cutting the freshly made spaghetti via an enclosed window. My ravioli had different shapes. Pretty cool. Yummy. Ordered a dish of spinach and a bread basket. They never arrived. Two glasses of wine and a nice desert of tiramisu. After a while all the restaurants seem to look the same but it's the taste and enjoyment that's important. Rated this a 4 since we didn't get to enjoy all of the food we ordered. Maybe next time. Still worth the trip but make that reservation day or night. It fills fast.
Called and made a reservation the day prior.
Which is soooo necessary. The restaurant is small and after being seated essentially every party that came in after me were told the restaurant was full for lunch and essentially turned away. With that out the way I can understand why this place is so hyped. Probably one of my favorite meals in Rome. I'm not typically a fan of gnocchi because they're usually too dense but I couldn't resist gnocchi and truffles so I just went for it. The gnocchi at this place were little pillows of heaven. So fluffy. So chewy. So light. The way i imagine gnocchi is supposed to be like. Service was top notch. No qualms about it. If you're in Rome and you're able to .. definitely try to add this place to the agenda.
Fantastic homemade pasta made daily.
Great antipasto meat and cheese tray, ravioli with butter and sage and our waiter was super and guided us through the dinner.
Great service from the staff and owner.
The food was delicious and we enjoyed the wine selection. The lasagna offered on Friday and Saturday was wonderful. Make sure you have a reservation.
Best pasta ever
It was some of the best pasta I have ever eaten. So delicate and tasty but simple. We had the sharing platter which says it is for 2 but was more than enough for 4 people. The wine was great quality and affordable. Service was great and good value for money.
Great food and Friendly Service
Fantastic find near to where we stayed. We phoned on the day and they were able to accommodate us with a table for two at 9.15pm sitting. On arrival there was people waiting outside and the6 call you when table is ready. The staff were all a really friendly and the food was superb. We had the shared starter with selection of meats and breads and then the Bolognese Tagliatelle and wife went for the boiled beef which was really tender and comes with a homemade sauce. Shared two deserts which were also fantastic. Good selection of wine (by the glass, half bottle and bottle). Reasonably priced cโฌ100 for the two of us including drinks. Small restaurant, but busy and Michelin Guide. Not rushed but quick to clear table in between courses. Definitely worth a visit and would definitely return if we visit Rome again
Get the truffle gnocchi.
We magically got seated after waiting in line, keeping our fingers crossed the reservations booked wouldnโt show. We got in and it was truly one of the most phenomenal meals Iโve ever had. A MUST in Rome and truly a meal that would bring me back.
I absolutely loved this redtaurant.
The food is to die for. The tortellini in brodo and the pasta with truffles... I dream about them

A great place for first timer to Italy because Colline Emiliane will grace you with not just Rome's specialties but cuisines from other parts of Italy as well such as the tortellini en brodo from Bologna/Modena. I came to CE with my husband on our honeymoon and was just delighted with the down to earth yumminesss of the pasta dishes and the generous antipasto plate. Definitely recommend the Tortellini en brodo and Tagliatelle alla bolognese.
Some of the best pasta we had in Italy.
The pumpkin ravioli was the star dish for us. We saw this dish featured in Bloomberg as a pro chef's favorite pasta in Italy, The rum cream dessert with caramelized nuts was ridiculously good . We loved this place so much we went back the next day. You definitely need to call ahead for a reservation.
fuego fuego ! goodluck getting a reservation.
i walked in and luckily the person cancelled so i was able to take their table! i got truffle gnocchi and milk braised veal with mashed potato. it was 10/10 i ate all of it the downside is that it's very small and has like 10 table so there is no way to get a seat and also people keep calling nonstop so all you hear is the telephone ringing to make reservations in advance i would come here again! it's in a random alleyway
The best meal we've had in Rome and across Italy.
If you get a reservation, it's sooo worth it. Food - for apps we got the proscuitto and fried procini mushrooms. My son (who never eats prosciutto or any 'deli meats' ate half the plate. We got prosciutto the next day somewhere else and he had two bites and turned it away. It was melt in your mouth delicate. My other son also wanted an additional order of the fried procini mushrooms. Pastas - bolognese, pumpkin ravioli and two orders of the soup dumplings. Not a spec of food left. The homemade pasta and quality ingredients speak for themselves. Initially, I thought the soup dumplings looked a little plain but the kids both ate their entire portion. Entree - veal. I was worried we didn't have enough but there was more than plenty of food. Dessert - chocolate cake and tiramisu. Both were amazing. The tiramisu was the best we've had. Service - perfect, very helpful, not too fast but also paced well. Ambiance - quiet but not pretentious. This place definitely gets five stars because every dish ordered was excellent. The quality of the ingredients, the simple presentation, amazing taste... I will definitely come back again and try more of the menu!!

We came back again this time with our kids and the experience is just as amazing! Made a lunch reservation a few weeks ahead. Started with the pumpkin tortellini and spinach ricotta tortellini and which the pasta is soft like pillows and the pumpkin is fresh and sweet. Then the polpette, fried veal w/ ham and cheese, and veal, all come with buttery mashed potatoes. Zabayon and chocolate cake were heavenly and also had the pistachio semifreddo. You must make a reservation (not sure how much in advance) but when we were there on a Friday lunch, owner answered the phone and told all customers no open tables through Sunday. For such amazing food, the price is really reasonable and the staff does not upsell or rush you at all.

We could not have a reservation for dinner so lunch would have to do. we were very satisfied with the menu as it included numerous vegetarian options. The service was friendly and efficient. the atmosphere relaxed and cozy. There was a mix of tourists and locals, including a few tables of business people - always a good sign. As expected, the handmade pasta was excellent.
Fabulosso! Extraordinary food, people, place.
In a town like Rome, it's hard to stand out. This does.
Overhyped.
Food at best was average. There were seven of us. Everyone said the same thing about their meal. I had the duck and it was ok. Nothing about it makes this food memorable. Service. Waiter was a bit harsh. Like he was not so happy about taking the order when we only ordered the appetizer/antipasti and second course. Ambiance. Clean and very presentable.
Reserve 2 weeks in advance
Unfortunately this restaurant is so popular for dinner that you must reserve at least 2 weeks in advance (or longer) to get a dinner table at 7:30 or 8 pm. We called on 3/21 and the gracious host said no tables at that time until April 1st. The only option was a table at 9:15 pm. It must be amazing but reserve before you leave home for Rome! We are disappointed not to know.
Best meal in Roma!
Absolutely incredible! This dinner was delicious. Everyone had something different and everything was excellent. Highly recommend but need to reserve weeks before.
Make reservations, pasta is some of the best ever
This might have been my favorite stop for pasta during my trip to Rome. No frills or anything extra, just simply amazing taste and top notch pasta. Very small venue, so make reservations far in advance, it will save you a lot of trouble and effort. Staff was extremely nice and it was great service. There's a separate room and a window where you can see them make the pasta, it's a nice touch for ambience. If I ever make it back to Rome, this place is a must stop for me.
Exquisite food !
When planning our Roma trip and reading the reviews on Trip advisor, we made sure to reserve a table at Colline Emiliane ahead of time. We couldnโt wait to experience their inspirational and authentic Emilian cuisine. This is a hidden gem and small restaurant founded in 1931. Just before the reservation time, we showed up and were offered a nice table with a view of their open kitchen (a front portion where they were making their delicious pasta). We had gnocchi di zucca con crema di Parmigiano e tartufo nero, tagliatelle con porcini and petty di anatra allarancia con purea (duck breast w/oranges). It was one of best food we had in Rome and all was to die for. I cannot recommend enough this restaurant. It is unbelievable!

Tradition, Family, Quality and ArtisanshipFour words that best describe the essence of Le Colline Emiliane. - book in advance, by phoneColline Emiliane is not a person, Emilia-Romagna, it's a type of cuisine, otherwise known as traditional Emilian regional Bologna cuisine in Rome. A short walk from the Trevi Fountain, this friendly trattoria was established in 1931. The the parents of current owners, sisters Paola & Anna took over in 1967. For more than fifty years hand making one by one each delicate pasta treasure perfectly and precisely wrapped for us to devour. You'd never know their hands and wrists ache because they are laughing, and smiling as they work, a true labour of love. Nearly ten years ago the family realized how much we would enjoy watching the ladies make fresh pasta and moved the "pasta laboratory" to the entrance of the restaurant. You can easily see the love the ladies put into each and every ravioli by the constant smile on their faces. The menu is rich in egg-based house-made pastas like tortelli di zucca (pumpkin pasta with butter and sage) and tagliatelle alla bolognese (long strands of fresh, perfectly thin, egg-based pasta dressed with a rich perfectly balance meat sauce). My Favorites* TORTELLI di ZUCCAHomemade ravioli stuffed with pumpkin in a butter sauce * Tortelloni ricotta e spinaciHomemade ravioli stuffed with ricotta and spinach with butter and sage* Vitello Tonnato A Piedmontese (Northwestern Italian) dish of cold, sliced veal w/ a creamy, mayonnaise-like sauce flavored with tuna and anchovies. Highly recommended.
I ordered the mushroom pasta was very good. We definitely will be back.

We got SO lucky! This restaurant lured us in with the reviews on Yelp. But we couldn't book a reservation because we did not have international phone service and once we were in Rome, they were fully booked a week out! However, we popped by to check it out as we were heading back to our hotel after a long day of sightseeing. It just so happened that some people did not show and they were happy to have us fill those spots! We had to wait a few minutes but it was more than well-worth it! The prices were unbelievable for the quality of food! I had the pumpkin gnocchi and my husband had the pumpkin ravioli. We split the veal with the sauce. The pillowiness of my gnocchi left me moaning in pleasure (along with the perfectly flavored cream sauce). And the truffles!!!! (Check out my pics!) The veal was delicious and I was a big fan of the ravioli texture. All that paired well with the Sangiovese wine the waitress suggested. We ended with a tiramisu and we felt SO GOOD afterward! Book a reservation here and just trust. It is a no-frills atmosphere but that won't even matter when you get that first bite of pasta in your mouth!!
