We were originally unassuming of Kissa Tanto, only implored

4/5 by 👻 @Saif L. on 07/23/2024

We were originally unassuming of Kissa Tanto, only implored by our server at Pidgin (who mentioned he was table neighbors with Jay-Z and Beyoncé when he went) as well as Kyle from the Saint Laurent store to go to Kissa Tanto when mentioning we were considering canceling our reservation, as this was "unforgettable." The family was in so we went and went for the tasting menu. We had no idea this was a Michelin Star until after we had dined, but honestly I am not shocked. The atmosphere of the restaurant was certainly unforgettable. I will never forget entering into the small, quaint, Chinatown door and walking up into what felt like a secret hideaway of meticulously and beautifully crafted food. The black truffle pasta is something I still think about to this day. I'm sure Vancouver has better restaurants, they do, Pidgin is one of them (yet no star, on accreditation, soon InshAllah), but this was a remarkable experience that while you could miss out on, you won't forget it if you go.

Kissa Tanto, a small and unassuming restaurant in

5/5 by 👻 @Michelle S. on 07/11/2024

Kissa Tanto, a small and unassuming restaurant in Chinatown, marks my second Michelin in Vancouver. This place came recommended by my friends so I had high expectations, which they delivered for the most part. Impeccable services and outstanding whiskey selections as well. Unfortunately it's been a while ago since I dined here and I lost my receipt. Will post prices for dishes when I can find them. I would say the best dishes were the house special (which changes daily/seasonally) so just check in with the team when you're there. Tajarin ($35) Octopus Salad ($27) Burrata Salad ($39) Margret Duck Breast ($65) Truffle Omelette (NA) Steak (NA)

Don't be fooled by the Michelin star.

1/5 by 👻 @Lynn W. on 06/30/2024

..not worth the $200+ cost because after cocktails and wine, it's $400 per person. This is not a Japanese restaurant fusion because it is mainly Italian. I would say that it would be on to pass on Kissa Tanto. There are much, much better restaurants such as Blue Water Cafe for true culinary experiences.

WOW. Worth the journey. My friend and I have been wanting

5/5 by 👻 @Kyle W. on 06/29/2024

WOW. Worth the journey. My friend and I have been wanting to go here for a while, but reservations can be pretty tricky to get, and the logistics for me to travel from Seattle to Vancouver further make this a much rarer opportunity that was worth the wait. I actually drove here from Seattle just for dinner and came back the same day, pouncing on this opportunity of our 8:30pm omakase reservation on a Friday. The omakase experience is a tasting menu format, but you do not know the specific dishes being served. This is the true definition of omakase, which extends beyond the typical sushi omakase. The experience highlights 3 starters, 1 pasta dish, 1 main dish, and 1 dessert, for a total of 6 courses priced at 155CAD, which is a solid price point. Additionally, we got some drinks. I personally got the My Private Tokyo drink as it is aesthetic and I looooove egg white based cocktails. Octopus salad - lightly fried octopus with parsley puree with neatly arranged lettuce and other vegetables. This was a refreshing first course and cadence is good thereafter, progressing into richer starters. Hokkaido scallops with fried shiso leaf - fairly fresh scallop with a creamy, slightly tangy sauce. The shiso leaf is its own star but combines adequately with the scallops. This is good but my least favorite dish. Chef's omelette - 3 eggs scrambled and topped with winter black truffle and truffle and cheese sauce. This was very rich and flavorful, and they do not skimp on the truffle. This probably constituted a good fraction of the omakase pricing, but I would not hesitate to try this again. Rotolo - pasta dish with beef stuffed inside. The pasta is rolled nicely into a circle, kind of like a flower, so you are encouraged to use a knife to cut small pieces to savor. The pasta is cooked to a nice al dente Coppa - pork shoulder. This is the juiciest, most tender piece of pork that I have ever eaten! It is glazed in a sukiyaki glaze and served with tomato and saffron sauce. There is cauliflower in green garlic emulsion served on the side. At this point, we were fairly full so we opted to not finish the entire vegetable dish to save room for the dessert. Yuzu cream with olive oil, nectarine and pistachios - this was the final course, the dessert. I love the olive oil balancing with the prominent yuzu flavor from the cream. The smooth texture of the cream contrasts with the nectarine, pistachio crumble to tie in a nice finish to the meal. Service is excellent as water refills were consistent and the waitress was willing to patiently take some pictures for us. She was also pretty friendly and had a good conversation at some points during the meal. I will definitely come back to try some of their a la carte options, since the omakase experience highlights some of the popular dishes but also feature fancier items not demonstrated in the regular menu, and there are a few a la carte dishes I'd love to try next time.

The service is great, they all look very aware, presentable and clean. The manager is always present. Food is served in a timely manner and all the dishes are properly explained. You can taste the love being put in ALL the food from appetizers to desserts. Highly Recommend!

Still dreaming about the beef cheek pasta purses and it's been almost a year. Hoping we're going back for my birthday. The service was white glove but still felt casual. If you've ever been to Papas Bros in Dallas, that was the level of service. It was busy to be sure yet intimate. Again, I can't wait to go back!

3/5 by 👻 @Mandy Z. on 04/22/2024

Kissa Tanto has a lot of positive reviews and recommendations from Vancouver locals so we opt out for a try. We ordered octopus salad, egg omelette (hidden menu), and seafood Udon. This place is a mix of Japanese and Western (fusion restaurant), the food is not traditional Japanese or Western. The $68 egg omelette with black truffle is the highlight of the night. No doubt that the price is expensive but worth a try. Octopus salad and Udon are not really stand out, pretty much something you can get everywhere in Vancouver easily. The environment is similar to a wine bar setting, which is great for hangout or dating. One drawback that some reviews had been mention is a bit pressure to sell the special of the night, order more food and dessert. Highly recommended for the egg omelette!!

A good friend got us a reservation at this lovely and wonderful Michelin-star restaurant, and we enjoyed everything so much. We got a table by the window, and ordered some pretty non-alcoholic drinks. The wait staff was friendly, prompt and well-informed. The ambience was cozy and sophisticated. My friend and I opted for the omakase menu (chef's choice), and they asked about allergens, preferences, and price ranges. Once we decided, we got a parade of delicious and innovative dishes, one after another, that included everything from incredible omelette to scallops and house-made pasta. We thoroughly enjoyed every single dish and left satisfied, promising to return.

UGH Kissa Tanto is SO good.

5/5 by 👻 @Sabrina H. on 04/09/2024

There are just so many elements of cooking and taste that were so memorable to me that I actively fantasize about. Me and my partner were seated as walk-ins but be sure to get there early because there are other people vying for seats as well and you want to beat out your competition (or you can just get a reservation, whatever). The location itself is nestled in Chinatown and you have to walk up a flight of stairs (I don't think I saw an elevator so not sure about accessibility) to a speakeasy-like, art deco atmosphere. The service was fantastic and personable and you can tell that they are all really passionate about food. I had gotten the Octopus Salad, Tajarin, Charcoal Udon, and then Yuzu cream for dessert. The Octopus Salad was super memorable because of the parsley vinagerette in the middle where you dip your radishes and radicchio in and that was the true star of the dish. Because the dish centers around octopus, you would think that it would be more memorable but to me, the octopus was more of an afterthought. It was light fried resulting in a kind of weird gummy texture but it was such an experiential and engaging way of eating the dish that I can overlook. I really did enjoy this dish. The Tajarin is one of the most memorable pastas that I have eaten with everything being made from scratch and everything was so fresh and good. If you get anything here, get this because every bite was brimming with umami fusion and despite my partner not wanting to order this because he doesn't like mushrooms, it ended up being his favorite dish. The Charcoal Udon was also very good but a bit too salty for me. The seafood was really well cooked but the sweetness of the crab was masked by the salty Calabrian chili sauce. The homemade udon noodles were chewy, bouncy... I truly cannot say enough good things about the noodle dishes here. Finally, the Yuzu cream was the perfect dessert. Sweet, tart, balanced, nutty, crunchy. The attention to detail with the little drops of olive oil made my dessert feel like art and the olive oil made the yuzu cream pop out alot more. It hit every mark on the target for me as it was interesting taste wise as well as texture wise. While I usually want to go back to restaurants to try other menu items, I want to get my same exact order again next time because everything was THAT good.

5/5 by 👻 @Keizzel C. on 03/05/2024

Kissa Tanto was highly raved about by a friend so when I was coming to town I had to make sure this was the first spot I made a reservation for. It's a little unassuming trying to find the place as you have to walk upstairs and enter this cute space that reminds me of a greenhouse with a classic bar in the middle of the space. Had a fantastic time for our tasting menu! I liked that they tailor the menu based on the price range per person so they adjust some of the ingredients to fit within your budget. We came as a group but had a friend come in solo and honestly it might be better to go solo or with two people because I think you get to enjoy the larger portions where you need to split them a little more the larger your group is. We ended up going under $200/pp | WHAT WE GOT | - Pickled app with fried olives with meat stuffing - Uni custard - still think about this - Cured fish - Wagyu - Truffle omelette - one of my favorites - Pasta (ugh can't remember exactly the ingredients but enjoyed this one a lot) - Squid ink pasta - Whole fried fish - Pork loin - Chinese broccoli - Canoli type of dessert with matcha and hazelnut filling Overall, each dish was unique and had a nice twist to some classic options. The ingredients were fresh and all flavors melded well with each other. There were definitely some clear winners of the night but I don't think there was anything we didn't like. Our server was great and even gave some recs for some speakeasies nearby. Thanks!

First of all, service was amazing, our server was very informative, explained all the dishes for us and gave us recommendations. The food was insanely delicious, flavours that I haven't tasted before. The charcoal noodles and pork were my favorite. The restaurant opens late and is busy (for good reason). Experience ruined by surly server Chloe

2/5 by 👻 @omni b on 01/02/2024

Food was very good. However, the dining experience was ruined by our surly and curt server Chloe who began by rather loudly carding my son when he ordered a cocktail and demanded, not one, but two pieces of ID from him to cross reference. Never had a request for TWO pieces of ID before (and also in such an indiscrete and militant way) in a nice restaurant, especially as my son is mature looking. We ordered a lot of food and two bottles of wine (Chloe tried at first to recommend the wines instead of directing the sommelier to us). Chloe was very, very slow in bringing house made hot sauce to the table to enjoy with our several dishes of pasta and we had to ask a couple of times. Eventually we had to eat the pasta without as it came too late; very very slow to bring sugar for espresso so that by the time she brought it, espresso was stone cold, she was too busy chatting it up with other staff and regulars. My husband was still polite and gave an 18% tip (although my son and I had told him that she should get much less). We spent over $1500 there and will never return because of her.

Five stars all around!!! Incredible service, food and ambience. We got resos at the bar which was fun because we got to watch all the cocktails being made in front of us. Every bartender and server was very attentive and the vibe was really relaxed and not at all pretentious. We ordered the $155/head chefs tasting menu and wow was it so worth it! My husband is pescatarian and they made an absolutely delicious seven course menu for us. Every dish was outstanding, but one of my faves was the king crab omelette (so silky!!!) and the charcoal udon (omg!! So good). The presentation was also stunning and the ingredients used were so fresh. Oh also the starter oysters were prob the best oysters I've ever had!! The drinks were also a huge hit! We got two cocktails each to start then moved to wine. Everything was so perfect! The whole restaurant itself kind of feels like a joint you'd find tucked away in NYC. Love love love! Will be back!

Lost Charm and Inflexibility

1/5 by 👻 @moon d on 12/18/2023

I had been a regular at Kissa Tanto for years, drawn by its welcoming staff and inviting atmosphere. However, recent changes post-pandemic, particularly in management, have unfortunately diminished its former appeal. During my latest visit, I needed a slight alteration to my meal due to an allergy, specifically requesting that an ingredient be served on the side. The current GM, Justin Isidro, stated that such adjustments would not be entertained in the future as they diverge from the chef's vision for the dish. This rigid stance was a surprise, given that similar requests were previously met with understanding and adaptability. The new management style, now more akin to that of a mainstream chain like Cactus Club, lacks the unique charm that Kissa Tanto once had. Sadly, I don't see myself returning.

DH and I have spent years pondering Kissa Tanto (Key-Sa not

3/5 by 👻 @Tara C. on 11/16/2023

DH and I have spent years pondering Kissa Tanto (Key-Sa not Kiss-A, for the record) and for whatever reason the journey was always thwarted. This year we really wanted to branch out from our usual favorite which has never ever failed us everrrrrrr (we are Annalena hipsters... loved it before it was cool to!). When you're spending ~$550 on food and drink, you tend to compare it with other $550 dollar meals you're having and in Vancouver, I have experienced that a handful of times with varying degrees of success. The one that never fails is mentioned above. So... using that as the bar for a perfect meal, I offer you the following review. To enter KT, you climb up a flight of tiled stairs (don't bring granny here, I didn't see an elevator though perhaps there is one?) and as we were in the first seating of the night, we were in queue to get seated. It was handled efficiently. The lowered lights, plush benches, and generally cozy feel is warm and welcoming. The bar is beautiful, truly and we were very quickly greeted by a server. For so few tables, I will say that it's not the quietest spot - a few times we had a hard time hearing the food descriptions. That said, ambiance, 5 star. Our server was lovely and offered recommendations. We opted for omakase which is not on the website menu and I'm sure pricing varies. On our night, it was 155/person, served family style. We had two cocktails, some sake for the meal, and closed it off with a digestif. The expedited the timeline for us because we had a little one at home but I thought that was actually the correct pacing for the meal. I had a Japanese whiskey sour with yuzu, the husband had something that resembled a gimlet. Both cocktails were perfectly prepared. Mine had been shaken with the eggwhite to velvet and this was probably one of the best cocktails I've had outside of home in a long time. First Course: Fried olives with Yuzu - we both enjoyed them very much and I believe even people who aren't generally olive fans would enjoy. Second Course: Octopus Salad - the octopus was perfection, though I felt like there wasn't enough octopus compared to the piles of daikon. Still, a lovely salad, sauce was unreal. Third Course: Fish belly in a.. hmmm. I can't actually remember the butter sauce detail but the fish was cooked perfectly. I would argue, however, this was a portion for one. Fourth Course, the mother effing showstopper: An omelette bathing in a pecorino sauce, topped with a generous helping of shaved alba truffle. Sex on a plate. This dish made my eyes well up with joy and will live in my top 10 things I have ever eaten ever. The omelette was unbelievable. I actually thought it might have been sousvided to get what can only be described as fluffy and dense simultaneously. Truly beautiful. Fifth Course: Duck agnolotti in a squash butter sauce. Richly flavoured, great texture. Lovely dish. Perhaps a little small for two people (there were 13 on the plate) Sixth Course: Duck Maget... was not my favourite. Somehow the duck was tough and I felt like it actually needed the mushrooms and sauce. I love duck, but this felt like it needed a couple components to shine - a starch, perhaps. Seventh Course: Raspberry Olive Oil Cake, Tea Ice Cream / Gelato... no complaints here. But Tara! Why only three stars? We left hungry. For 550 bucks, tip in, we should not leave hungry. We actually questioned whether only one meal was ordered. And while delicious, the positive recommendation did not match the meal. I feel like it's one of the rare times that it has happened in a restaurant of this quality and for that, I can't give it the full five.

Exceptional food, shtty attitude from entitled server.

1/5 by 👻 @Kham + Rosie on 09/22/2023

We just came back from having dinner at Kissa Tanto. First, the food was AMAZING. My girlfriend thought that it was probably the best restaurant where she ever ate. We ordered 3 cocktails, 2 entrees, 1 mid something, 2 mains, 1 dessert, and 2 glasses of wine. We received a stellar service from everyone during the whole evening. Our main server SIMON was very sweet with us the whole night. The bill came in at 310$ before taxes, and we tipped 50$ on top of it (16%+). After paying, my girlfriend asked for the receipt... SIMON printed it from the machine but the machine printed ANOTHER table's receipt (see photo). As soon as the receipt printed, SIMON looked at it to see how much we tipped him... That bill from another table being of a LOWER amount, the tip was lesser (33$) than what we really left him (50$). As soon as SIMON saw that 33$, his whole demeanor changed, and he just left saying absolutely anything and doing an angry kind of face. I am writing this review for you to understand that: 1) you printed the wrong receipt 2) we tipped you 16%+ 3) the table that tipped you 33$ was less than 15% of their bill (I hope you served them the same bad attitude than you served us) 4) even though we absolutely loved the food, you ruined our whole fkn night with you shtty attitude 5) even though we loved the food, we will steer everyone we know away from your restaurant. THANK YOU!!!

Overhyped, Overpriced and Overthought

1/5 by 👻 @mce b on 02/11/2023

I’ll start my review by stating that I’m not a chef, so I don’t have the culinary skills to make dishes at this level, and I also would never consider myself a foodie with impeccable taste. Saying that, I do enjoy cooking and traveling, and as such, I try a lot of different foods and have an appreciation for all different types of food. This review is just my opinion Kissa Tanto rates up there as probably the most overrated restaurant I have ever been to, anywhere. The restaurant itself is pretty nice and I liked the decor. Myself and my 3 friends started with drinks, and the 3 of them got gin & tonics and I got a black lager. The G&T’s came and were completely uninspired. They genuinely looked like tall glasses of water with zero fizz to the tonic. I know, I know, it’s a gin & tonic, it’s not a cocktail, but they were just dull and bland, with a garnish that looked like a potato peel and a “trendy” long af ice cube that takes up the entire glass. For starters, we got 4 appetizers and the fried stuffed olives. The fish crudo was bland and just over powered by what seemed to be an endless supply of radishes. The fried smoked octopus was ok, but again, just hammered with too many radishes and endives. The wagyu tartar was pretty good, but it would have been better just on its own. It was covered in a mountain of Parmesan and Nashi pear, but it just all seemed pointless as none of the flavours came through. All of that was fantastic though, compared to the Tonno Montecato, which was basically smoked mashed potato with tuna mashed into it, covered in sushi seasoning. It made zero sense and was just a waste of time ordering. So far, we were far from impressed. As for mains, we got the sable fish, which was delicious, but a laughably small portion for the price, as well as the Tajarin, which was their “highly recommended” pasta that genuinely just tasted like Kraft dinner. We also got the charcoal udon which was interesting, but again, nothing fantastic and a pasta special, which had Japanese curry, pangratotto and a few other things, which just tasted like a rich pasta dish that was fairly bog standard. Other than the taste of the sable fish, it was all incredibly subpar. I understand that this is a fusion restaurant and I enjoy trying experimental dishes such as the ones served at Kissa Tanto, but none of the dishes worked…like, not at all. It just genuinely seemed like someone read a list of high end, hard to find ingredients and threw them all together thinking that, somehow, they would create a taste experience that would blow your mind, when really, they just created an entirely overpriced, over hyped menu that I truly can not fathom how it has made people rave about how excellent this place is, and I sure as hell have zero idea how Kissa Tanto received a Michelin Star. I would have been just as disappointed in anything I ate here had I ordered it at a White Spot. Eating such a disappointing meal and paying as much as we did (which is not even that much if the food was even remotely better) left a horrible taste in my mouth equaled only by the Tonno Montecato. Save your money and don’t waste your time. Genuinely the worst meal I’ve had since I went to Red Robin about 12 years ago.

Ever since The Michelin Guide awarded and recognized some

4/5 by 👻 @Paula C. on 01/02/2023

Ever since The Michelin Guide awarded and recognized some local Vancouver restaurants we made sure Kissa Tanto was on the top of our to list! After several tries of reserving a table of the holiday we decided to test our luck with a walking in seating! We arrived before opening and was fortunate to grab a table and was fully ready to feast when seated! We ordered the Margret Duck Breast + Sablefish + Yaki Onigiri + Fish Crudo + Octopus Salad + Charcoal Udon + KT Cannoli. Their dishes were fresh and a crescendo of flavours. The starters were simple and light in flavour. And as you move into the mains the flavours become bolder. A favourite was the sablefish with its minty and citrusy chili salmoriglio sauce - a very refreshing take on this dish. All in all it was a great meal and was a great way to end off 2022!

My husband and I went on a double date to Kissa Tanto, one

4/5 by 👻 @Josephine M. on 12/29/2022

My husband and I went on a double date to Kissa Tanto, one of the few restaurants in Vancouver to have recently earned a Michelin star. Dining in a Michelin star restaurant has never been and still isn't something I aim to do in life. Kissa Tanto is a restaurant that I've been wanting to try for quite a few years now, since long before it was awarded a Michelin star. On our table we had: Tonno Mantecato, Fish Crudo, Burrata salad, Dandelion Pappardelle, Tajarin, Truffle Omelette (feature item, not on the menu), Seasonal Vegetables, Tiramisu, and Affogato. Everything was delicious; however, in all honesty, none of us thought the food was soooooo delicious that it merited the Michelin star or the prices they charge. Portions were extremely small. Our server said the dishes were designed to be eaten family style. Well, for family style dishes that are meant to be shared...I would have expected larger portions. My personal favourite amongst all of the dishes was the Tajarin. My second favourite was the Fish Crudo.Service was excellent for most of the evening. They were good about cleaning our table and changing our plates & utensils in between each dish that was served. However, I do have to admit that towards the latter part of the evening they failed to check on us as often. I'm someone who likes to drink a lot of hot water and while they came around to refill my hot water earlier in the evening, they did not top up my hot water later in the evening. Service: GoodParking: Paid parking on the streetLocation: In Chinatown. On Pender St. between Main St. and Gore Ave.

We had such high hopes coming here.

2/5 by 👻 @Janice T. on 12/28/2022

I don't live in Vancouver anymore, but grew up here and have always wanted to try. We managed to secure a booking at 8:45, booking a few weeks ahead and pretty much made plans around it. Upon entering, we were impressed by the decor. It's cozy, intimate and felt like a trip back in time. Our server looked like Leonard from Big Bang theory- let's call him Leonard) The tonno mantecanto was good but the potato made the dish too heavy. The tajarin and dandelion pappardelle came next. We had the tajarin first as it looked lighter. It was lukewarm, almost a cold dish. We had the other pasta next. We really enjoyed the pappardelle (maybe because it was hot ). When the server came to ask how it was, a friend asked if the tajarin was supposed to be be served cold. Leonard looked at my friend and said it was supposed to be warm. And proceeded to clear our plates. I then chimed in and said the reason he asked us because our dish was cold. To my surprise, he looked at me coldly and said "did you take photos?" Uh ... were we not allowed to take photos ???? I said we did but very quickly. His response was "well that's why". He walked away. Leonard then came back to refill our waters (which he did a fine job of, btw). I told him that we had the tarajin first and the pappardelle next and that the pappardelle was still hot, and that we just wanted to tell him for his feedback, and that I don't appreciate his dismissive response. He ignored me and walked away again. He came back and said "I wasn't being dismissive". Ok. Sorry at this point, I was flabbergasted. I did not expect to come into a so-called Michelin starred restaurant to get into an argument. I then told him that all we were doing is to provide feedback and not asking for anything in return. We don't need a new dish, we intend to pay for it, and that it was strictly for feedback. The rest of the dishes that came just couldn't cover that disgusting flavour from our server.

How not to serve.

2/5 by 👻 @FNU on 12/06/2022

I don't usually leave reviews, but this one requires it. I recently visited Kissa Tanto with 5 friends for dinner. As you may know, the restaurant likes to keep groups small and so all their tables are 2-4 seaters. They do, however, have one big round table, which they say is meant for 6 people. This is not true. They do have one round table, but it does not fit 6. It's maybe a 5 seater, but for a restaurant at this price point, it should really be a 4 top. The 6 of us got to the table and instantly realised that this table was way too small and so requested the manager to add an extra chair for which there was plenty of space. This was strike 2 as it was a flat-out no. Not something you expect at a high-end establishment. A defining factor of a good fine dining experience is that customer requests are catered to, epically when your guests are visibly uncomfortable and unhappy about something. Not at Kissa Tanto. Not to say the staff was out right rude, but a good front-of-house team makes you feel welcome and important. This just wasn't the case. You could tell that the entire serving team at Kissa Tanto had a certain sense of arrogance. A good server understands the food and their guests. Servers at Kissa Tanto have just learned a script of ingredients for each menun item without understanding what any of it means. The next time you're there, ask your server anything about the food that they haven't already told you, like where it's sourced from or how it's made, and they will know nothing. The restaurant offers a chef's menu, which our server highly recommended we try. This menu is meant to be served family style similar to most of the dishes on the menu. However, this food is not family style friendly because of the way it is plated. Now there's nothing wrong with that and frankly the food was the one thing that was on point, but if intricately plated dishes are meant to be shared by the table, the restaurant should really have trained servers deconstructing the dish and plating it for each guest. Needless to say, this does not happen at Kissa Tanto. Coming to the food though, my regards to the chef. Not a single bad item on the menu, and every dish in the chef's tasting menu was better than the one before. Some very good food by Vancouver standards and Chef Watanabe's skill and finesse speaks through the food. The team in the kitchen knows what they're doing, and it shows. If it wasn't for the amazing food, this meal would probably have gone down as one of the more unpleasant dining experiences I've had in Vancouver. A dining experience is defined not just by the food but by everything you experience from the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out. And it's disappointing that a restaurant serving a caliber of food set by Chef Watanabe has been paired with a front of house team that does not understand the assignment and if frankly just not up to the task of serving guests at a Michelin Star restaurant. With its new Michelin Star status, a thorough review of the front of house team is in order, and rigorous training is definitely required for the team. Hope they're able to elevate the serving staff to the level of the food soon, but it is safe to say that we will not be going back for another meal any time soon.

Amazing fusion of Japanese and Italian cuisines that is worth trying if you are in Vancouver. The ambiance is cozy and all food portions are on the smaller side. The food is expensive but it was expected as it's a Michelin rated restaurant. Each dish was well crafted and loved every bite of it. The yuzu cream dessert stood out and was amazing.

Kissa Tanto is such a gem in Vancouver.

5/5 by 👻 @Josephine W. on 11/15/2022

The times I have dined here has always been a treat with top notch service and food. I decided to come here for my birthday and it happened to be shortly after they received their Michelin star. Kissa Tanto is a Japanese-Italian fusion restaurant with share plates style cuisine and creative cocktails. We decided to order an appetizer, pasta dish, a protein (fish) dish, a side and dessert between two people. The octopus salad was one of our favourites and so much care is put into this dish. First brined, then grilled, then fried and served on a delicious sauce and greens. We also enjoyed the parpadelle which was cooked Al dente with a hearty sauce. The sablefish was buttery and tasty, a bit on the small side, so you'll have to savour every bite! For our side we got the yaki onigiri, a nice carb side dish with a bit of crunch! We ended with tiramisu which I believe has some Asian ingredients (plum?) but it tasted like a typical Tiramisu, which I loved anyway. Thanks for the birthday candle!

I am from Toronto and dined at Kissa Tanto with my husband

3/5 by 👻 @Michelle K. on 11/07/2022

I am from Toronto and dined at Kissa Tanto with my husband in September. We paid $125 pp for the Omakase. Both the food & customer service were excellent...top notch...Michelin worthy. I told many of my friends. A month later I flew back from Toronto and was looking forward to dining at KT again. I dined with my 2 friends for a birthday dinner, and after hearing what was offered, we decided to spend $175pp for the luxury ingredients Omakase, which promised to be spectacular. In our initial conversation with the server, we informed her of my gluten sensitivity and that one person doesn't eat beef. She assured us that we would not be served pasta & that in lieu of the wagyu my friend would get a great substitute. Nothing came. For an additional $50 pp, What did we get?? 2 Oz wagyu & 9 tiny pieces of king crab. All other menu items were basically the same as the basic Omakase we had the month before. We received the same size portions for 3 people that we received for 2 people and $525 vs $250. We did get a 3rd Chawanmushi ($40). This does not make sense. Our server told us for the additional $50 pp, we would get WHITE truffles & wagyu beef. Black truffles omelette appeared at the table so I thought white truffles would appear later. It never did. When I asked the server about it, she said the white were too expensive. Why did you upsell us on white truffles then not come back to inform us that it wasn't happening? We would have gone with the lower priced Omakase. This felt deceptive. I have a gluten sensitivity & received udon noodles with gluten! When the dish was served, we questioned the server who confidently assured us they were gluten free. A few minutes later, another server came to advised us that the noodles were in fact not gluten-free. Why were we served a $49 noodle family style sharing dish when we were told we would not be served pasta? The server said that yes, there's gluten & the next dish would be gluten free. This same server had told us that we wouldn't be served pasta due to the gluten sensitivity at the table! Additionally, all dishes are the same size irregardless of the number of people at the table. We were told this was because the dishes are meant to be eaten "family style". This doesn't make any sense considering we were given the same amount of food for 3 people as I had when it was just my husband and I. As well, at one point during our meal, 3 dishes were dropped off at our table. It was difficult to enjoy each dish as there was no change of plates and the food was getting cold. Discards/garbage were not cleared from our table until almost the end of the meal. This was not representative of the amazing service I experienced during my first visit. After our meal we spoke with Justin the manager and his attitude was not what you would expect at this level of dining. He made us feel like we didn't know much and was actually insulting when he said had they known we wanted quantity vs quality, they would have suggested the basic Omakase. I am a foodie who flies around the world in search of amazing food and experiences. Although our first visit was amazing, unfortunately our second was not. We did not receive a friendly greeting by the host, who made it seem like we were fortunate to be let into your restaurant and were not treated like welcomed guests or valued customers. Overall the poor customer service, inconsistency, and lack of additional food for the 3rd person has changed my initial thoughts about this restaurant. Our dinner was extremely disappointing and it was frustrating dealing with Justin. Clearly this role of manager is beyond his capabilities. While this restaurant has been awarded a Michelin Star, my second experience here has been far from worthy of a Michelin Star. Diner Beware!

amazing food

We told our waiter to think of a nice menu and wow us. Well, he did! The price is steep, no doubt, but the food and amazing ambience made it worth it for us. The only slight negative note is that that when you give a waiter a card blanche i would not nessacerily serve wagyu. We know and have tried that many times before. It was amazing taste wise but i would have preferred to be amazed by weird combinations then a sure shot like wagyu. That said, we know what we were in for when giving the restaurant a free hand an had an absolute amazing evening! Do also visit the tapas bar next door to enjoy a starter cocktail. Quirky and amazing place!

Let's say Peter has a great morning and decides to take his three friends to Kissa Tanto Vancouver at 6 PM the same day.

* FluffyStar64 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to FluffyStar64 for any questions Peter may have as FluffyStar64 user fills the bid.

3.) Finding the Reservation
