Martin's Tavern Washington Reviews
Come for the Presidential booths, stay for the food
Really fun seeing all of the Presidential booths. You cannot reserve a certain booth (that I know of), however if someone is sitting in a booth that you want a picture of most of the people do not mind if you take pics. Most are as excited as you are about it. Only met one grump at one of the booths, but I managed to sneak a pic anyway. lol The waitress even said you can get up & take pics, so it isnโt like you are really doing something against their wishes. Bar drinks were great & food was excellent. My husband had the Sheppardโs pie & loved every bite. My son had the chicken parm & said it was one of the best he ever had. My chicken & andouille fettuccine was perfect. Service was great as well. Friendly staff all around
Wonderful experience
Great food, in a wonderful location, with wonderful service. And, the history of this restaurant is intriguing. Highly recommend!
All around winner!
We had a great experience on a very warm evening. We sat outside, and they brought over a fan to make us more comfortable. The service was impeccable, the food was delicious. Specifically, the TY Cobb salad had fresh ingredients and perfectly done bacon. The shrimp and calamari appetizer was crispy and flavorful. Even the grilled cheese from the kids menu was a hit.
Worth a stop
Amazing. The food, drinks, atmosphere and staff! Many options for lunch. Portions are huge, so easily can be split. I suggest making a reservation ahead of time.
Great history, great food, professional staff
This is where JFK proposed to Jackie O, and so much other history. So much more though.....Shrimp cocktail for appetizers...4 large shrimp were very very good...bartenders were so professional and made sure my water was always filled, good martinis....I had the Chicken with fettuccine and it was excellent. Glad I went if I am back in the area would go back so much more on the menu I would like to have tried.
Food fantastic
Ok, first, loved the food, delicious! Drinks were fantastic! Our waiter was outstanding. The place is historic and still has all its charm. My only complaint, and maybe it's just me... but, we were seated in the booth just inside the door, there's no where to check in and that leads to everyone leaning on your booth. Hovering by our table. It took away from the whole dinner and experience. That booth needs to come out. Literally people in your personal space the whole time you're trying to eat.
Lovely evening
Came here for dinner whilst visiting DC, we had heard great things and atmosphere wise it did not disappoint! Lovely friendly service and we had some nice wine and Prosecco. For food we had the shepherds pie and the tuna, both were ok but not amazing. Overall this is a great place for people watching with great history and a fabulous atmosphere. We would visit again but maybe just for drinks. (Plenty of people were eating though and looked like they were regulars)
Tourist Trap: Poor Service and Sickening Food
We would definitely not come back here because there are much better restaurants in the area. Regarding the service, it felt like the kitchen was rushing through preparing each meal. Our appetizers came after our entrees which made them unenjoyable. Additionally, 2 of us ordered the same sandwich, yet one of us got a pickle and the other didn't - strange, but not a huge deal. Some of the food was hot, but other items were room temperature. The fried green tomatoes were the worst fried green tomatoes l've ever had. The chicken sandwich felt like a microwaved sandwich from a supermarket. However, the French onion soup was very good, so if you decide to ignore my review and eat here, then order that. The food also made me feel really sick shortly after leaving.
