KIMONO TEA CEREMONY KYOTO MAIKOYA at NISHIKI 京都市 Reviews
Cute and informative experience
My husband and I had a lovely experience learning about the history of tea and tea ceremonies! Our host was funny, kind, and informative. Getting dressed up was also a fun plus!!
Wonderful experience
Wonderful experience - a real highlight was being dressed in the kimono I selected and to have my hair done. The kimono change area was conveniently just across the road from where we did the tea ceremony. Very informative and enjoyable tea ceremony - our host was charming and we had the chance to make our own tea and to sample sweet treats. There was also the opportunity for photos in the garden. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and I would highly recommend this company. They have a few locations and so make sure you get the right one.
Memorable experience
Truly enjoyed picking out my kimono and having them paper me in getting dressed up. The gardens were a perfect backdrop for photos. The tea ceremony was informative, and the host had a great sense of humo. She made us feel welcome. Highly recommend this experience.
Great experience
My wife and I did a private tea ceremony experience and we loved every minute of it. The townhouse-style venue was beautiful (tatami everywhere, wall scroll in the alcove with a beautiful orchid-like flower, etc.) and the tea ceremony was transfixing. The kimono we got to wear were beautiful and amplified the experience. Our tea guide for the session, Yuko, was really knowledgeable, spoke great English, and had great energy. Highly recommend.
Ako her team made our trip
Ako our host was so knowledgeable, funny, sweet and very good with our many many questions. She made our day. We loved our photos and getting to participate in the tea ceremony. Ako and their team did an incredibly good job of helping us put on our attire, take terrific photos and experience the ceremony. We were impressed by what a smooth and efficient operation they run. Everything was well thought out and we never were waiting for long, something that was impressive given all that was involved with the experience.
Must do in Kyoto
It was a very enlightening experience. The cost was high but we were given a yukata, tea, and two sweets and many opportunities to take photos
Once in a lifetime experience!!
I booked this activity for my daughter and I during our cruise around Japan on the Celebrity Millennium. We docked in Osaka and used the very clean and efficient train system to get to Kyoto. We explored the shopping streets and then arrived at the Kimono Tea Ceremony building. It was very busy and we were 30 minutes early, so we left and came back. We checked in with the hostess and sat in a waiting area. We were taken across the road to the ladies’ dressing area. There were about 6 lovely and patient women who helped us put our belongings in bags, put on our socks and sandals, and then dressed us carefully in the kimonos of our choice. They had many sizes, patterns and colors to choose from. After we were dressed, the women gave us updos and we were able to pick three hair decorations. We walked back over to the main building and were escorted into the tea ceremony room. We were in the room with a couple, a family of 3, and another family of 4. Our hostess was Fuuri. She was knowledgeable, graceful, and made the experience so magical!! She told us when we could take photos and video and allowed us to ask questions (my daughter and I had several!) We tried to use some of the Japanese we had learned to speak with her and she was so excited that we knew some! She had a lot in common with my daughter and they ended up chatting for a while after the ceremony. Then, we were able to take photos in the gardens. Fuuri came back while we were taking pictures and gifted my daughter with a Japanese fan and a note that said Happy Birthday and Congratulations on her graduation. It was an unforgettable experience made even more special by our amazing tea hostess!
Relaxing experience
We began by first changing into our Kimonos across the street (where the womens dressing room was). The women over there helped us put the kimonos on properly, and then did our hair and selected our hair ornaments. We could choose which kimono we wanted to wear as well as the obi. I let the lady working on me choose the obi and accessories as she's the professional and she did not disappoint. Then we started the tea ceremony. The hostess was very elegant and knowledgeable. She explained multiple aspects of the tea ceremony. We made our own tea via her instructions, and took pictures afterwards. Overall it was a wonderful experience, though it seemed a bit short. I would recommend trying this experience out.
