Wako is my favorite sushi restaurant in SF when I want to
Wako is my favorite sushi restaurant in SF when I want to treat myself to some high quality omakase. It can be hard to get a reservation because the place is really small, but I randomly check here and there to see if there are any last minute cancellations. Get a seat at the counter if you can. While it is pricey, it is totally worth it and in my opinion, this is the best value in terms of all the pricey omakase places in SF. People always say they leave sushi restaurants still hungry, but that won't happen here.

I went here for omakase and the restaurant was so cute, cozy, and small. Omakase here was $95/person so a little cheaper than most omakase places but for really good quality. It costed more for us because we had add-ons. Some of their ingredients came from Hokkaido, Japan. They gave us a little wet napkin to clean our fingers if we wanted to eat by hand, but they provided chopsticks too. My favorite was the uni! We got extra uni from Fort Bragg which was super creamy. We forgot to take a picture of all the courses because we were enjoying our food so much! Another thing that stood out to me was actually the restroom! The atmosphere in there reminded me of a spa and they had a bidet and a humidifier! I would definitely recommend coming here for the experience!

Visited this place to celebrate an early Valentine's Day this year, and we had an exceptional experience. Most items on the omakase were thoroughly enjoyed, with fresh and high-quality ingredients. The ambiance added to the enjoyment of the meal, and the service was great. Coming from a background of experiencing authentic Japanese cuisine in Japan and Taiwan throughout my life, along with my work experience at Ryugin, I think I have developed a discerning palate for Japanese cuisine. After visiting numerous Japanese restaurants in the States over the past twenty years, I feel compelled to say that this is one of the few places that meets my expectations.

An amazing omakase experience in SF and reasonably priced.
All the sushi was so fresh and paired well with the different flavors. Even their non-sushi dishes were wonderful and their ice dessert was amazing. Make a reservation because they're very small and fill up quickly
We always love a wako visit.
The sushi chefs are super knowledge, kind, and funny. The fish is always so fresh and delicious. This is a very classic take on omakase and great value for the price!

We did the sushi tasting and were impressed by the attention to detail and the quality of the fish and related offerings. Standouts were the wild mackerel, sea urchin, and tuna belly hand roll. In particular, the combination between the sea urchin and seaweed was nothing short of divine. The creamy urchin paired with the salted crunch of the seaweed checked all the flavor profiles. The tuna hand roll had a unique paring with pickles and shiso leaf, which gave a slightly tanging, herbaceous complement to the fatty tuna. Our server was great and attentive. The space was cozy but not uncomfortably close to other tables. Will be back!

I really love this place! I ordered both the omakase and the sushi tasting, so I can get double of all the nigiri, then added supplemental to make sure I didn't miss any of the nigiri either. The staff was pretty shocked I could eat all of it, but also the chefs were pleasantly surprised. Moving on to quality, the quality of the fish here has always been amazing, each time I go. And the omakase / tasting menu prices are extremely reasonable compared to with other places in the city. So great value for the quality you're getting. The atmosphere of the place is modern Japanese, like a typical nice sushi place in Tokyo. They have counter seating and table seating, as with all omakase experiences I definitely recommend sitting at the counter / bar to get the full interactive experience. Will be coming back!

I came here for a Christmas Eve dinner and we had reservations at the sushi bar. The restaurant is quite intimate as there's a finite number of seats at the sushi bar. There's also a handful of tables, but you don't get to see the chefs in action. We opted for the omakase which includes appetizers, sashimi, 10 piece nigiri, hand roll, and dessert. My favorites out of everything included the toro nigiri, uni nigiri, and fried cod katsu. It's prepared right in front of you and meant to be eaten with your fingers. I wished there was salmon, but the menu I'm assuming changes based on what their fish inventory looks like any given day/week. The nigiris were also prepared with fresh wasabi, although no soy sauce. At the end of the meal, they have an a la carte menu to sample any other fish you may not have been able to try. The servers are quick to take away any dishes cluttering up your area. We also ordered yuzu sake and plum wine which were delicious. It's definitely not your everyday omakase, but worth the experience!

It wasn't just eating. It was truly an experience. A cozy and warm curated culinary hug. Everything was divinity. The service was immaculate but not pretentious. The chef was clearly more qualified than I could ever imagine, and what he placed in front of me.. it melted in my mouth with every new and unique bite.
This is truly the best omakase I've tried in SF.
The food was great and their menu changed daily based on what's in season and available. Chef tomo was happy to answer any questions we had on the dishes being served, and it was great to sit at the counter and watch the chefs at work. The restaurant is small, cozy, and intimate, with great service and ambiance. Will definitely be coming again when we get the chance!

This once Michellin Star restaurant is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. Friendly service, great atmosphere, and fantastic food! I always recommend counter seating if you can get it, where the sushi chefs let you know about all the dishes and you can chat with them. All the flavors are light and well balanced. The sushi and all their ingredients are all so fresh! I recommend Wako 100% of the time!
Easily one of my favorite omakase places in SF.
I've been here twice now and both times did not disappoint. I would recommend this omakase to everyone I know. The fish tastes super fresh and the flavors go together very well. Service was great and the dining area was very clean.

I can't say enough good things about my dining experience here. The very first bite of our initial course, the red snapper, literally put tears in my eyes. It was THAT good. And when the standards are that high off the bat, you can't help but wonder where the rest of the gastronomic experience will take you. At Wako, it only got better. The Chawan mushi and uni (ala carte) was so silky and pleasant in the mouth. The subtle uni flavors elevated every bite. The chutoro or medium fatty tuna marinated in jalapeno soy melted in my mouth, definitely one of my favorites of the evening. The king mackerel brushed with ponzu sauce was slighty smoky and melted in my mouth as well. A5 Wagyu is an absolute must. The tiramisu was decadent and came with two cute little edible bear characters on top. Such an adorable detail!The service was top-notch. Sitting at the counter is a must if you're doing omakase. It was mesmerizing to watch the sushi chefs assemble the course like an art form while you get interesting tidbits on the food you're about to eat. We learned that they import their ingredients from the same fish markets that Michelin restaurants do! The waitresses were highly attentive as well and never missed a beat. If you're deciding on where to eat in SF, Wako should be a top consideration. For the price relative to other omakase spots, it is definitely worth it.

Bf booked this veteran Michelin omakase venue for my early birthday celebration. I liked how they had an extensive a la carte menu. The nigri omakase was about 100$ a person, a la carte menu ranges from 10$+. Uni a la carte items were in the 15-25$ price range/ serving. The venue is small, and the service is a little less formal than typical Michelin grade restaurants, however the food was amazing!The nigiri were fresh, and all the food was well executed .This venue offer bar seating and a couple regular tables. I would highly recommend booking at the sushi bar for the full experience.

Chef Nakamura-san is dedicated to make the customer's experience exquisite. He devote his sushi making to the level of art. In particular, cherry tree smoked salmon is the one I have never tasted before and words just can not explain the taste and the aroma that expands in your mouth.I highly recommend this place even though it's a bit pricy but I guarantee you that it's worth your visit.

MUST VISIT!! Tonight was my first time at Wako and this has become my favorite Japanese restaurant. We were served by Chef Tomo and got the omakase plus a few handrolls. Chef Tomo is an absolute treasure and is so knowledgeable about the fish. The quality of the fish was like butter, every piece blew my mind. I loved every part of my experience here. The place is casual and lively, no need to feel the need to dress up (unless you want to)! I'll be back very soon. Thank you Chef Tomo!

Table service was lackluster and poorly executed time wise. Not comparable to other Michelin star sushi restaurants. The tasting menu was underwhelming for the price. While the fish pieces were great every single piece was served on rice that was over seasoned. No variety in preparation or presentation the fish. For that price, presentation should have been better at the least. This place definitely lacked the wow-factor. My first and last time there tonight.

Excellent fresh fish, with late verities, service is awesome, small place but haven't had any problems getting a table pretty quick. We've been there twice. We pretty much stayed with sashimi, we did try the 49 roll which is very good.

Third time back for my birthday and still delicious as ever! My favorite this time was the cherry trout/Sakura masu, red snapper, and king mackerel/sawara! The Hokkaido uni was super fresh as well
SPECTACULAR omakase counter experience.
Every single piece was unique in flavor and texture. The sushi tasting is bomb. The chawanmushi and fried monkfish (the cheeks!) absolutely delicious. Jin and the waitstaff there were all very professional, friendly and considerate. Sushi Chef Jin was especially thorough in addressing each fish and how it was prepared. The waitstaff was prompt in serving tea and collecting finished utensils. Thanks to the staff for personally drawing the (birthday) celebration! We always love the different sketches on the business card. This place is definitely well deserved Michelin one star. The ambiance is that it is super cozy and nested between so many local gems. My absolute favorite sushi restaurant in the bay!! The only con is that it's located in inner Richmond so finding a parking spot is quite a nightmare. My SO and I have to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to our reservation to hunt for a spot. Very very thankful to my SO for booking this day of as an early celebration and treat for ending Feb strong!!

Made a dinner reservation at Wako for my birthday & got the $98/per person omakase and a few additional items! For $98 you get so much great value for freshness and a nice variety of fish. Loved especially the jalapeño marinated tuna, mackerel, and sakura smoked trout nigiri we had. On top of that I got a scallop hand roll and ordered the matcha tiramisu to round out the meal. Very intimate, rustic space with only 20 seats, you really feel like you are getting every employee's full attention. Thank you to my chef and all the kind staff for a thoughtful experience, I so appreciated the happy birthday sign!

* Peter can now talk to FamousStation67 for any questions Peter may have as FamousStation67 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* FamousStation67 now uses their connections at Wako Japanese Restaurant San Francisco to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If FamousStation67 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
